‘You Are No Longer In My Life'
For the first time
I can unselfconsciously tell my name
I can look in the mirror and feel no shame
I can exist without a sense that I am somehow to blame
Now you are no longer in my life
For the first time
I can speak my mind without the urge to flinch
I can lift my spirits without the aid of a winch
I can, given a mile, take more than an inch
Now you are no longer in my life
For the first time
I can look others directly in the eye
I can express myself, free from pressure to apologise
I can live, at last convinced that I have earned the right
For the first time
Now you are no longer in my life.
