‘Was It You Who Turned Out The Lights?'

I hoped I'd progressed in my head
From that feeling of intangible dread
I thought I'd moved on in my life
From the days of bedroom eyes at a kitchen knife

It seems once your heart glides
It's straight back to the slide
Once you start to feel alive
Part of you suddenly dies

Was it you who gave me some insight?
Was it you who made everything right?
Was it you who sheltered me from the night?
Was it you who made my dark soul bright?

And was it you who turned out the lights?

I'd finally started to accept myself
But that was because there was someone else
At last, I felt able to face the world
But the minute I did, my own unfurled

I can't bear these hollow insides
And there's no one I can confide
In now, so I think it's time
To take some control over what's mine

Was it you who gave me some insight?
Was it you who made everything right?
Was it you who sheltered me from the night?
Was it you who made my dark soul bright?

And was it you who turned out the lights?

No matter how fortune might appear to change
The black tide will always come back in again
And no matter how your soul might seem to mend
The demons will always get it in the end

Was it you who gave me some insight?
Was it you who made everything right?
Was it you who sheltered me from the night?
Was it you who made my dark soul bright?

And was it you who turned out the lights?
